But obviously that is not the case for all financial institutions. So some people will be able to deposit money at any ATM. If this is your case, keep in mind that cash deposits at an ATM not affiliated with your bank or credit union will take longer than usual to process: in most cases it will not be immediately or the next day, it can take up to 5 business days.

IMPORTANT: Your bank or credit union will also not be responsible for those deposits if something goes wrong. You will need to contact the owner of the ATM if there are any problems.

You can deposit money at any ATM if you are a customer of these banks

The banks and credit unions that we present below represent an important part of the sector and allow you to deposit money at any ATM.

Capital one

You can deposit money at any ATM that is part of the AllPoint network, more than 39,000 ATMs in total. For some accounts, you can be reimbursed up to $15 in ATM fees from other banks per billing period, within 5 business days.

Navy Federal Credit Union

The NFCU says you can make deposits at 9,000 ATMs in the CO-OP network. But your deposit will be held for 5 business days before it is available. However, you cannot deposit more than $10,000 per day at ATMs in the CO-OP network. There are no NFCU or CO-OP fees. You can also use ATMs in the Visa/PLUS and CashPoints system, but not to make deposits.

PNC

You can deposit money at non-PNC ATMs, but your funds will not be available until 4 business days after. You may also be charged a fee by the owner of the ATM, however PNC does reimburse some fees to its Virtual Wallet customers.

State Employees Credit Union

This institution allows you to make deposits at any CashPoints ATM. Y You will not be charged for CashPoints or SECU.

TD Bank:

This bank allows deposits at any ATM on the Cirrus or PLUS networks. Only the first $100 deposited will be available immediately, while the rest can take up to 5 business days. You may also have to pay a fee depending on the ATM.

You cannot deposit money at any ATM if you are a customer of these banks

The following entities do not allow you to deposit money through ATMs.

Bank of America

Deposits can only be made at this bank at Bank of America ATMs. Withdrawals, transfers and balance inquiries can be made from other ATMs, although a $2.50 BofA fee will apply, probably in addition to a surcharge for owning an ATM.

chase

You can only deposit cash and checks at Chase ATMs. While withdrawals, transfers and balance inquiries can be made at any ATM. Total Checking and Chase University Checking accounts have a $2.50 fee for each out-of-network ATM transaction. Chase does not charge this fee for the Premier Plus Checking account, but an ATM owner fee may apply.

Citibank

It only allows you to deposit cash and checks at Citibank ATMs. You can use non-Citibank ATMs on the MoneyPass network to get cash, check balances or make transfers. Neither Citi nor MoneyPass will charge you a fee.

Pentagon Federal Credit Union

PenFed only allows deposits at its own ATMs (or by taking a photo of a check with its mobile app). You can perform other features like withdrawals at AllPoint or CO-OP ATMs without fees. You can also withdraw money from other types of ATMs, but you may be subject to a fee from the owner.

U.S. Bank

This bank indicates that you cannot make deposits at ATMs that do not have the US Bank logo. And if such a deposit is accepted, the funds will not be available until the fifth business day after the request. As usual, withdrawals, transfers and balance checks can be made at other ATMs. Some US Bank checking accounts charge $2.50 for each such transaction.

Wells Fargo

If you are going to make a deposit through an ATM of this institution, you can only do it to a checking account. Withdrawals, transfers and balance inquiries can be made without problems at other ATMs. But a $2.50 Wells Fargo fee will apply, along with any applicable ATM owner surcharges.
